She is a superlative passenger ship. At 150,000 GRT, the Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2 is the largest, longest (345 m), tallest (tallest (at 72 m, she surpasses the Statue of Liberty)) and most magnificent passenger liner ever built. There is room for up to 2,620 passengers on 14 stylishly and luxuriously furnished passenger decks, plus a further 1,253 crew members. With her long and elegant hull and powerful drive (max. 29 kn) she was specially designed for transatlantic voyages, from Europe (Southampton, England) to North America (New York) in 6 days. The concept for the Queen Mary 2 was created in May 1998, after another two years of development, the order was awarded to a French shipyard in November 2000 and the handover to the Cunard Line took place on December 22, 2003. Only after spending the winter in the Caribbean did the ship begin regular transatlantic service in April 2004. The Queen Mary 2 continues the tradition of great North Atlantic voyages, thus continuing an era of ocean voyages that has already been declared over.
