On January 18, 2005, one of the most important milestones in the Airbus A380 program took place. The world's first continuous double-deck aircraft was officially shown to the world for the first time in a ceremony at the Jean Luc Lagardere Final Assembly Facility in Toulouse, France. This event was attended by more than 4,500 guests. The launch of the A380 also marked the introduction of the new Airbus livery, the first to change since the A310. The A380 is the first aircraft to carry this new Airbus design. It not only reflects Airbus' current market presence, but also its future status as a leading aircraft manufacturer. The A380 landed at Blagnac (Toulouse International Airport, France) after successfully completing the first flight, which lasted 3 hours and 54 minutes. The first passenger flights are planned for 2006 when the A380 enters service. The Airbus flagship for the 21st century took off on its maiden flight with a weight of 421 tons - the highest take-off weight of any commercial aircraft ever. This maiden flight met all of the main test points while also marking the beginning of a longer phase of test flights that will include five A380s.
The scope and rigor of these ground and flight test programs will lead to a seamless entry into service for the A380.
